Our Changeprint

Our Changeprint can be measured by the help we provide that keeps residents warm and well at home; improvements in home energy efficiency, insulation and draught proofing that reduce energy usage, energy bills and carbon emissions; improvements in local air quality; and tackling fuel poverty.

Our story

Independent charity, the Environment Centre (tEC), started in December 1993 as Southampton Environment Centre. From the beginning, tEC has worked on a diverse range of local and national projects – from fuel poverty, air quality and waste minimisation to best practice in behaviour change, sustainable construction and peak energy demand reduction.

tEC works with lots of different partners, including local councils. On behalf of Southampton City Council, tEC energy advisers provide residents with an impartial advice service on keeping warm at home, accessing grants and saving money. Over a busy year, we have assisted over 4,000 households, responded to over 8,000 calls and saved more than 2,300 tonnes of CO2e.

We also work with Hampshire County Council to deliver 'Hitting the Cold Spots': a service that offers Hampshire residents advice on staying warm and well at home, applying for funding and accessing a broad range of tailored support.

The engagement team at tEC works with charities, schools, businesses, voluntary groups and local government to share our message with new audiences both online and in person.

Our advice

The combination of a cost of living crisis and an energy crisis has put more people than ever in heartbreaking situations, so it’s no surprise that demand for our service increased at a rate of knots. Free energy-saving and affordable warmth advice can be a lifeline for many residents who have concerns about keeping warm in the winter and paying energy bills.
