Earth Cubs

Education • UK

Earth Cubs provides a rich media mix of educational materials for young children to learn about the world in a fun, colourful and positive way.

Earth Cubs story

Established in 2019,  Earth Cubs is an initiative with the goal of educating 3-11 year old children in a positive and proactive way about ecological issues, through engaging lessons and games which are designed to be entertaining and educational at the same time (‘edutainment’).

The team behind Earth Cubs consists of a mix of creatives, educators, designers, gamers, developers and advisors (from the very young to much older!). With a strong sense of social responsibility running through its core, the organisation is in the process of becoming a BCorp and as part of that journey has pledged 20% of its profit to charity.

Earth Cubs provides its climate, sustainability and environmental learning resources to teachers and schools for free, to be used in class, as assemblies or outdoor activities and in other settings.

Their UK-wide, Eco-Schools programme provides a simple, seven-step framework that empowers young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond. Schools connect their activities to three or more of the Ten Eco-Schools Topics. These topics break large, global issues like climate change into more manageable actions.

Useful learnings from Earth Cubs

Doom and gloom is no way to inspire action, especially in kids. Earth Cub’s mission is to inspire young children with positive, vibrant and engaging stories about the world, sustainability, innovation and action.

The journey of discovery about sustainability and the environment involves putting learning into action, to have a real-world impact. This is achieved with the help of other programme delivery partners; for example, protecting trees, forests and habitats through Rainforest Trust (UK).

As an organisation, Earth Cubs is a remote workforce and its output is predominantly digital. Despite their low energy usage and minimal use of raw materials, they still believe they can do more. In line with their ethos, they encourage and support employees to reduce their carbon footprints and offset their carbon footprint through Rainforest Trust UK and Ecologi.
