We are part of nature, not apart from nature, and our wellbeing depends on living within the boundaries of what the natural environment can sustain. We need to think differently about the vital role of nature in our everyday lives, and go beyond traditional ideas of conserving pristine landscapes in remote locations. Ingenious new approaches are required, to alleviate the pressures of urban living by integrating nature into the heart of our built environment; to halt the current mass extinction of species and incalculable loss of life; to value nature as precious in its own right and not simply because it is useful to us.
