Our story
We are JoyRiders!
Since 2016, we have been helping women, families, and even a handful of men get on their bikes. We’ve helped thousands of people learn to ride for the first time and been on thousands of rides for beginner riders too.
We run regular groups for casual riders and a special volunteer ride leader programme. Our focus is on fun, rather than speed or endurance. We ride at the pace of the least experienced rider and never leave anyone behind.
We want to help more women to ride independently and grow in confidence.
We are a not-for-profit, community interest company and incredibly grateful for all of our brilliant volunteers.
Our advice
Everyone can ride a bike and there are so many wonderful women out there who want to share the joy of riding bikes. We've been able to grow from being a small group of friends based in Waltham Forest to having JoyRiders groups all across London, Manchester and Oxford.
Cycling is not just about sport - it's also a fun, healthy and low-cost way of getting around. Changing the perception of cycling so that those who feel it is "not for them" can feel accepted within a cycling group or community is really important.
Our metrics
We want to grow. JoyRiders is always looking for more volunteers, so that we can programme more rides so that more women can make more journeys by bike.
We measure the number of rides and events we hold, the number of participants and the number of volunteers.
