We are delighted to announce the first four expert members of our Advisory Board. A warm welcome to: Zarina Ahmad, Sonya Bedford MBE, Zunaira Malik and Professor Ian Thomson.

Zarina Ahmad campaigns for climate justice, race equality, and increasing diversity and participation in environmentalism in Scotland, by supporting BAME projects and communities and creating pathways for under-represented groups to work in environmental organisations.

“In taking on this role I hope to support Carbon Copy in building connections with diverse organisations, enabling groups of people from all backgrounds to be inspired by – and inspire – local low-carbon initiatives and environmental projects,” said Zarina.

Sonya Bedford heads the Renewable Energy team in leading South West law firm Stephens Scown, and sits on the board of five community energy groups. She is one of the founders of the innovative and ambitious Zero Carbon Wedmore group and in 2018 was awarded an MBE for services to community energy.

“Renewable community energy is one of the fundamental solutions that Carbon Copy is working to publicise,” said Sonya. “It’s my passion too, and I really look forward to helping them in their goal of making links and sharing solutions in this field.”

Zunaira Malik is Programme Manager for the South East at UK charity Action for Conservation (AFC), a UK youth environmental action charity that inspires and empowers young people aged 12-18, from diverse backgrounds across the UK, to become the next generation of environmental leaders

“I got involved in campaigning and raising awareness about climate change and environmental issues because solving problems requires inter-generational collaboration and solutions that work for everyone. I want to support Carbon Copy in engaging young people from all backgrounds to tackle environmental issues.” said Zunaira.

Professor Ian Thomson is Director of the Lloyds Banking Group Centre for Responsible Business at University of Birmingham, overseeing projects that inform the development of responsible business policy and practice, from citizen accounting to carbon accountability.

“I look forward to supporting Carbon Copy’s great work, not just through my specialist knowledge and contacts in the area of carbon accounting, but also as a critical friend and practical help,” said Ian.

Andy Knott, one of our co-founders, said “It’s a mark of how far we’ve come since our launch last May that we’re able to attract such fantastic talent to our new advisory board. They will provide invaluable insight into what’s going on in their own field, constructive critique of our long-term strategy and immediate plans, and really useful networking.”
