Newbury College's Story

We have launched the Newbury College Renewables Centre. The Renewables Centre has been designed to develop the skills needed to deliver green energy. We are committed to the move towards a carbon-free economy and the use of renewable sources of energy in the home and the workplace. It is focused on training technical people; plumbers, engineers and electrical installers to be able to fit and install into new buildings, and retrofit into existing ones, low carbon energy solutions.

The Centre will support the local workforce and businesses to develop the skills needed for 'green jobs' and features solar and fuel cell energy sources; reducing the demand on fossil fuel generated electricity; the latest air and ground source heat pump technology; and supporting the drive to replace traditional gas or oil boilers in homes.

Fully equipped, assessment bays sit throughout the Renewables Centre, enabling a practical and immersive training experience for plumbers, electricians and engineers, including technologies that will shape our world for the next 20 years.

The addition of the new Renewables Centre, along the the introduction of T Levels in September 2022, demonstrates the College's commitment to focus on careers, not courses, and support the economic recovery of the local community.
