Local Action Means Big Impact
2025 is the year to Do Something Bigger!
Our new campaign, in partnership with WWF-UK, The Carbon Literacy Project and Climate Emergency UK, highlights the incredible potential of local action for climate and nature in 2025.
Our new collaborative campaign supported by three high-profile climate and nature focused organisations, is aiming to boost hope, inspiration and place-based action to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Throughout 2025, Carbon Copy will highlight “25 Big Local Actions” that people can take together, at work or in their community, to make a bigger positive impact in the place where they live.
The campaign is backed by an impressive national collection of a thousand climate action stories, published on our website by organisations from all sectors and from across the UK, that further demonstrates the impact of these 25 big local actions. With this new 2025 campaign, Carbon Copy and our partner organisations hope to move people from inspiration to action, providing practical guidance and signposting people to crucial resources.
Carbon Copy Trustee, Ric Casale says:
“We know people all over the UK are already doing so much collectively to tackle big issues like climate change, nature depletion and social justice. The huge number of stories we’ve published is an indication that there is indeed hope: that there is power in working together, and power in doing so locally. The kinds of actions that we are showcasing are bringing real change – not only in terms of reducing emissions, but in terms of building stronger communities, improving health and wellbeing and bringing real fulfilment to people’s lives.
“We’ve been exploring what the potential impact of more people taking these 25 Big Local Actions could be – and our findings are remarkable. We don’t need to wait for national policy; we already have the solutions and the power to make a real difference locally, right now. With this campaign we want to recognise the work that is already happening, whilst encouraging more collaboration, more innovation and even bigger action for climate and nature all over the UK.”
The 25 actions are divided into seven broad themes: Buildings & Places, Circular Economy, Food & Agriculture, Local Powers, Nature, Renewable Energy and Transport. Ric explains this approach:
“Climate action comes in many forms and we know that some topics will appeal to some people more than others. By covering 25 different actions across seven themes, there’s something here for everyone. We’re inviting people to pick just one that inspires them to do something bigger, by collaborating with others in the place where they live or work.”
Partner organisations, WWF-UK, The Carbon Literacy Project and Climate Emergency UK each bring specialist expertise to the campaign, each contributing content and case studies throughout the year.
WWF-UK’s Head of Community Engagement Campaigns, Kathryn Machin says:
“We’re so pleased to be supporting Carbon Copy’s 25 Big Local Actions campaign in 2025. By celebrating and showcasing the incredible work being led by communities across the UK, we can inspire more people to take action for nature where they live.
“This collective action is about more than restoring our natural world – it’s about restoring our sense of purpose, our bonds with one another, and our mental well-being. Time spent in nature, especially when enjoyed together, helps reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and loneliness, replacing isolation with connection. We also know that the more connected communities are, the more resilient they can be to climate shocks, and more able to work together to protect and restore nature.
“But we know access to nature is not equal, particularly for those in urban areas who report a lack of safe, accessible green spaces. This is where community action can make a real difference. By banding together, we can create places where everyone feels safe and welcome, where everyone feels they belong.
“Global challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss can feel overwhelming. Our collaboration with Carbon Copy is about transforming this into hope and finding inspiration in one another to create healthier, happier and more resilient communities.”
The Carbon Literacy Project’s Sector Development Coordinator, Tony Johnson says:
“The Carbon Literacy Project are thrilled to partner with Carbon Copy and other leading organisations for this ambitious campaign. Carbon Literacy offers a day-long experience that leaves participants informed, empowered, and inspired towards taking their own actions to help resolve the climate emergency. By focusing on collaboration and local solutions, 25 Big Local Actions aligns with our mission of helping everyone in driving the systemic change needed to secure a low-carbon culture where they live, work, and study.”
Annie Pickering, Operations Director at Climate Emergency UK adds:
“We’re excited to be working in partnership with Carbon Copy and others for 25 Big Local Actions in 2025. From our Council Climate Action Scorecards, we know just how important local councils are in delivering local climate action, but this can only be effective when working with local communities. It’s great to see how the Action Scorecards have been used to create these case studies and equally, how these case studies bring to life some of the Action Scorecards questions on how councils can lobby nationally for change, plant more trees and more.”
The campaign is complemented by a 25-episode podcast series, Do Something Bigger, with a new episode every two weeks focusing on one of the actions. Speakers will include experts from businesses, charities, local government and community organisations; and several episodes will include high-profile special guest co-hosts.
