Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service's Story

To reduce our impact on the environment, we have set out in our property and fleet transport strategies to collaborate with partners where possible sharing oversized accommodation. We are committed to building new fire stations with renewable energy sources.

Our newest development at Worksop Fire Station will be powered without burning fossil fuels and will self-generate up to 50% of its electricity through PVs. The heating and hot water will be provided by Air Source Heat pumps and the station design includes over-specification of insulation "U" values to be 20% more efficient than regulations require. We are committed to reducing our diesel and petrol use with the introduction of electric vehicles throughout our light fleet and we have installed EV charging points at nine of our fire stations.

Useful Learnings from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service

Nottingham Fire and Rescue Service have committed in future strategies to reduce energy bills, energy consumption and carbon, in that all our new fire stations will not be heated using fossil fuels but will use some form of renewable heat pump technology.

We will also self-generate energy through investment and increased usage of Photo voltaic panels to provide the electricity to power the station and the heat pumps.

We have estimated that on a good day we could be generating up to 50% of the Station's power needs through the PVs.
