About Carbon Copy
Carbon Copy is a UK charity that exists to turn individual concern for climate and nature into collective impact by helping people connect locally, build community around solutions and create real change together.
Copying is human nature. When action is visible and easy to replicate, it spreads. We believe the fastest way to create change is to share it. It’s about people stepping in, inspired by what others have done and copying what works.
Founded in May 2020, Carbon Copy promotes action through storytelling, shared plans and insights – virtually, digitally and in-person. Our role complements government policy and individual efforts by encouraging more place-based collective action.
We believe people are powerful, especially when we come together. Carbon Copy is a small, high impact and collaborative organisation. Friends of Carbon Copy include WWF, The Carbon Literacy Project, Friends of the Earth, mySociety, The Climate Coalition and Climate Emergency UK.
Research shows that just 3% of a population can generate major change. In collaboration with our partners, Carbon Copy’s aim is to engage one million people locally in UK climate action by 2030 and hit this three percent tipping point.
The opportunity
The UK is entering the next phase of ‘decarbonisation’ where further reductions in emissions can only be achieved by changing our previously normal way of life. Out of necessity, this new phase will be more devolved and democratic, as local government and communities play an increasing leadership role.
Councils and communities are energised but under-resourced for the task ahead – unless we can bring more individuals together. The opportunity is to hook up civic society with climate action and encourage people to step in.
The challenge is fundamentally about communication. People are numbed by the science, puzzled by the jargon and overwhelmed by the predictions – not inspired or necessarily motivated to do something. The climate message is missing a core truth: community is essential to solving the crisis we face.
Building on our successes so far, we will launch an ambitious new communications programme in 2026 to realise the collective possibilities of people joining forces and how these impacts scale up by copying.
Trustee role
The current Board of trustees is strong in the areas of strategy, marketing, finance, communications and governance. We are seeking an individual who’s familiar with the inner circle of climate change organisations but outward looking in terms of engaging with a wider audience. Someone who has broad skills in partnership development, media, PR and fundraising. A visionary who sees the potential in our new climate narrative and how we can maximise its impact.

- Being responsible for the impact performance of the charity, its ‘corporate’ behaviour and its financial sustainability;
- Ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements;
- Acting as guardian of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application;
- Ensuring that the charity’s governance and risk management are of the highest possible standard;
- Working in partnership with other trustees and other senior staff.
Required for this role:
- Partnership development Creative, bold thinking about strategic partnership opportunities and approaches across public, private and third sectors to amplify CC impact.
- Public-facing communications Strategic experience in communication campaigns aimed at the wider public and in breakthrough media.
Desired for this role:
- Institutional fundraising Experience supporting a not-for-profit organisation in seeking institutional funding, e.g. from government, trusts, foundations etc.
- Charity governance Demonstrate experience of issues relating to charity governance, preferably having sat on the board of a charitable organisation.
