Our story
Established in March 2022, The Woodshop of Recycled Delights CIC addresses the pressing issue of wood waste while harnessing its potential. We transform urban green spaces by delivering carpentry and timber workshops to communities, benefiting cities, people, and nature. After a successful pilot year, we're scaling up our work and seeking further collaborations, partnerships, and funding to propel our mission forward.
What we do:
The Woodshop of Recycled Delights tackles the environmental issues of timber (wood) waste by capturing and repurposing waste wood for the benefit of urban community spaces, and by creating behaviour change around timber waste using the COM-B model of behaviour change.
We build and improve urban green community led spaces by delivering carpentry and timber workshops to communities, which benefits them in multiple ways, and benefits cities, people, and nature.
Our advice
We've learned that there's huge demand for basic training and confidence building in carpentry, that loads of people are passionate about reducing waste, and that with these tools almost anything is possible. We've also learned that the positive impacts of our work extend far beyond the environmental impacts - that these sessions are great for mental and physical health, community building, confidence and employment, and many other things.
Our metrics
We measure the amount of timber that we divert from the waste stream, as well as the number of people we reach with our training and behaviour change work. We also count the amount of furniture items we make, and make estimates of the amount of timber saved from changed behaviours down the line.
